Learn more about the history and evolution of ETERNA

From Vienna to the world

On the 5th of November 1863, Bernhard Hönigsberg founded his first company in Vienna. Together with his partner Salomon Singer, he opened a store at Fleischmarkt 13 on a busy shopping street in the centre of town. It was from here that "Hönigsberg & Singer" sold haberdashery – everything people needed for their tailoring, ranging from buttons and needles to thread and yarn.

Never standing still

At the start of the 20th century, the Hönigsbergs employed around 300 people in Vienna, making them one of the largest clothing manufacturers in Austria. By this time, they were sending out products to customers all over the world. In fact, they had business contacts in such far-flung places as Egypt, Syria, Canada, Mexico, India and Australia.
