Pink is not a fashion color.

Breast cancer is always topical.

The pink ribbon of the non-profit organization Pink Ribbon Germany is also a reminder that prevention and early detection of breast cancer are immensely important. The pink ribbon can be seen very often during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Also at ETERNA - because we support breast cancer sufferers Clara, Sarah, Ines and Kendra in fulfilling their heart's desire: To raise awareness for breast cancer.

Why is it so important to raise breast cancer awareness?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Germany. One in eight women will face breast cancer in her lifetime.

Ines:
"Because 70,000 women nationwide are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, it's so important to go for screening."

Breast cancer can affect any woman.

Women who develop breast cancer are getting younger and younger. Inherited breast cancer genes can promote the disease.

Kendra

"Cancer knows no age."

Early detection is important - every woman can take action herself.

More than 80 percent of carcinomas are detected by the patient's own breast examination.

Sarah:
"You have only one body. The sooner you discover changes in your breast and the sooner that's treated, the better your chances of surviving, too."

This is how every woman can take precautions herself:

Regular breast examination is the most important way to detect changes early. Not every change immediately means breast cancer. Nevertheless, every palpable lump should be checked by a doctor.

You should pay attention to the following changes:

  • Pain in one part of the chest
  • Nodules in the armpit or chest
  • When the skin looks like orange peel or swells up
  • Fluid leakage from the nipple
  • Changes in the nipple
  • Retraction of the nipple
  • The size of the breast changes
  • One breast changes shape differently than the other when lifting the arms
  • Reddening of the skin (sometimes looking like scabs) that does not go away

The chances of recovery from breast cancer are better the earlier the cancer is detected. Therefore, every woman should take advantage of the opportunities for screening at the doctor's office.

Use preventive screening, reduce risks.

Clara:
"Prevention is better than aftercare, and prevention doesn't hurt at all."

Our wish:
Even more awareness for this important topic

We are very grateful to Clara, Ines, Sarah and Kendra for doing all they can to raise breast cancer awareness. Many celebrities also support their cause - for example, Frauke Ludowig.

Frauke Ludowig:

"I have supported the Pink Ribbon Germany initiative for many years and am enthusiastic about their educational and pioneering work. Currently, one in eight women in Germany will develop breast cancer during her lifetime, which is why awareness of screening options is so important."
